and leading missions.

Refugee Family Sponsored by Northminster

One way we can welcome Jesus into our lives is to help Northminster in the sponsorship of a refugee family through the Exodus Resettlement Project. Our family from Eritrea, arrivied in Indianapolis on December 15, 2005.

Dad is Mekonen (so we will call them the Mekonen family) was born in 1964. Mom is Abrehet and she was born in 1974. The oldest son is Keflome and he was born in 1994 and Tesfome was born in 1999.

Northminster has obtained and furnished an apartment for them. If you have anything to donate or are interested in volunteer opportunities please contact our project coordinator, Jack Wineman, at 847-4364 or jrwineman@comcast.net

Latest Update on the Family:

Our refugee family is doing well and continuing to adjust to life in the US. If anyone has an employment lead for Mekonen, please contact Pastor Ruth Moore know (251-9489).

The Mekonens were given a travel loan by Church World Service for their tickets to the U.S. The loan was for a little over $3000.00. Beginning in June 2006, the monthly payment will be $88.00. If anyone is interested in helping to pay an amount or an installment for the loan, please let Pastor Ruth Moore know (251-9489).

We can still use people to spend time with the family, work on their English, and drive them to appointments. The boys are still in need of homework helpers who would come after school to assist for an hour-long session.  Aberhet is working full time now at HomeWood Suites near their home.  They are in need of 2 adult bikes, one male and one female, to get to and from work as opposed to being driven by Jack Wineman daily.  The bus service in the area is poor and as the weather begins to warm up, this would be a more desirable option. Contact Jack Wineman to offer up your time and talents.

Recall what the Book of Hebrews (13:1-2) reminds us: "Let mutual love continue. Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for by doing that some have entertained angels without knowing it."
