Deacon’s
Spring Plant Sale - May 5th - 10:00 - 6:00
Bright yellow order forms for the Deacons’ Spring Plant Sale
are
located in the narthex, by the office entrance, and inside March
N&V's. This is the major fundraiser for the Deacons, supporting
their projects throughout the year. Your order form and payment
need to be returned to the church office by Monday, March 27. You
may pick up your flowers from 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. on Friday,
May 5, in the church parking lot. This year the Deacons are looking
forward to record sales. Here are the Top Ten reasons why you should
purchase plants from them:
10. Nurseries and retail stores are
too crowded.
9. Your “volunteer” plants that
popped-up in January got frozen in
February.
8. They make good Mother’s Day
gifts.
7. They will add value to your
house if you are going to sell.
6. There’s nothing like homegrown
vegetables.
5. Flower beds give you an
opportunity to get down on your
knees and pray while weeding.
4. There is a projected shortage of
nectar for bees this year.
3. You can plant flowers that have
the colors of your favorite sports
teams.
2. The Deacons like to personalize
your order with chalk markings in
the church parking lot.
1. The Deacons are not funded by
the general church budget and need
to raise funds so they can help
many needy individuals and
organizations.
Below are some of the various projects the Deacon are involved with
at Northminster. The Deacons are always in need of help with their
fund-raisers and welcome participation by the congregation in this
worthwhile partnership.
Food Assistance for Washington
Street Presbyterian Church
This year-round project involves the whole congregation of
Northminster. Folks are encouraged to bring food items to church.
The food is collected and taken to the food pantry at Washington
Street Presbyterian Church on the west side of Indianapolis. Volunteers
are needed to bring in food contributions and to help deliver food
to Washington Street.
School 55 Partnership
The Board of Deacons—helping officers of our church—have
formed a partnership with IPS School 55, which is just a few blocks
away from Northminster. We collect and provide needed classroom
and school supplies in the fall, some of our members tutor children
at the school, and we delivered 50 food baskets to School 55 at
Thanksgiving. We also help buy school uniforms for children who
cannot afford them and keep in contact with the school social worker
for needs that come up during the year.
Flower Sale
This is our big fund raiser each year. The flower
sale takes place in May.

Christmas Clothe-A-Child
Project
Each Christmas season our congregation contributes over $11,000
to help clothe needy children for the winter months. For the past
two years we have taken children from School 55 on this shopping
trip to Sears and out to lunch at MCL Cafeteria. A few weeks before
Christmas 50–60 volunteers shop with the children and take
them to lunch. Volunteers are needed to shop (8:30 a.m. to 12:30
p.m.) and to contribute financially. This is a really fun day for
both the children and the shoppers, and it is a great way to begin
the Christmas season of sharing.
