Children's Ministries

Children are a vital part of the Northminster Church community. They are welcome in worship and are involved in our active and growing Church School program. Children participate in mission through contributions to Heifer International, VBS mission projects and other special initiatives. Children's Choirs, Homework Help, family-friendly meals, child care (that is both enriched and enriching) and fellowship are available on Wednesday evenings.

Church School Gift for Haiti

The major Stewardship goal for Northminster’s Church School for the last ten years has been contributing to Heifer International www.heifer.org through the children’s offerings to the Milk Pail at “Time with Children” during Sunday morning services. The children select the animals to be purchased at the end of each Church School Year. The Kindergarten, 1st & 2nd Grade Class suggested, and all other classes agreed on Sunday Feb. 7, 2010 not to wait till the end of the year and instead immediately send the existing fund balance of $270.24 to the “Heifer International Fund for Recovery and Restoration Effort in Haiti.” We can be proud of the caring attitude demonstrated by our children and youth.

PC(USA) launches Children’s Mission Web site!

Kids4Kids, (www.presbykids4kids.org) helps children ages 8–11 find information about children around the world, and learn ways to advocate and act on behalf of other children.Created by the GAMC’s Office of Child Advocacy, it includes stories, activities, and suggestions for mission involvement and practical tools to help children develop lifetime skills.

Northminster Community Preschool and Mother's-Day-Out

The Northminster Community Preschool program offers classes for children who will by three years old by August 1 of the upcoming school year. The classes for 3/4 year olds meet on Tuesday and Thursday with the option of a morning program at 9:15 - 11:30 a.m. or an afternoon program at 12:30 - 2:45 p.m. The classes for 4/5 year olds are for children who have turned four years old by August 1 and plan to attend kindergarten the following year. The 4/5 classes meet on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday with the same morning or afternoon class time options.

The Northminster Mothers'-Day-Out program serves children who are 18 months old by August 1 of the coming school and not yet eligible for preschool. Children in the Mothers'-Day-Out program generally attend one day a week, on Tuesday or Thursday from 9:00 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. or on Wednesday from 9:15 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. The Wednesday class is specifically for children who are 2 1/2 years old by August 1. Mothers'-Day-Out programming focuses on social skills for young children and adapting to being in a different environment with other people. For many children, it is their first experience being away from Mom and Dad. The children in this program bring their lunch to school, and those in the Tuesday and Thursday classes nap in the afternoon.
