What I missed and not

What I missed and what I did not miss…

I did not miss TV or telephones at all.

I did miss good internet connections and the ability to communicate with friends and family.

I did not miss any particular foods (except cheese) but I did miss the opportunity to cook.

I did not miss my bed, we had very nice beds everywhere.  I did miss my shower- actually my entire bathroom- and I really missed being able to brush my teeth with water from the tap.

I missed ice.  My first stop when we landed at Dulles was the Starbucks for a black iced tea.

I thought I missed reading the newspaper, but on the rare occasions when I had the opportunity I discovered I really didn’t miss it after all.  Sometimes ignorance really is bliss.

I can’t believe I am saying this, but I missed my workouts at the Y.  In Ethiopia we did a lot of walking and even a couple of hikes.  But in Kenya we rode a lot and sat a great deal.  I missed the physical activity.

Thanks to my Kindle I have not missed reading good books.  Thanks Mother for the Kindle and thanks to Northminster for filling it!

I have not missed cleaning house, doing laundry, shopping, running errands, standing in line at the bank or the pharmacy.  My sabbatical from those chores may go on for several more months.

It would be interesting to have made a list beforehand - what you think you might miss - then compare to this list. And you didn't mention air conditioning, or even electricity (though that might be included in missing the internet) - interesting....
