Better Nutrition, Better Tomorrow – Feeding Hungry Children

Did you know:

·         In 2017 hunger around the world increased for the third year in a row.  Much of this is due to climate change, conflict, and economic downturns.

·         45% of all preventable child deaths are linked to malnutrition.

·         Every dollar spent on nutrition programs for pregnant women and young children produces an average $16 return from reduced health care costs and people’s ability to participate in the labor market.

·         One in four of the world’s children suffers from physical and cognitive stunting.

·         In 2017, more than 7 million U.S. women and children living in low-income households received nutritious food and nutrition education through WIC

Because of these alarming statistics, our Offering of Letters this year will focus on:

·         urging Congress to support a global initiative to accelerate progress on nutrition

·         urging Congress to protect and increase funding for global nutrition

Michael Curry, Presiding Bishop of the Episcopal Church, proclaimed,”When love is the way, no child will go to bed hungry in this world…when love is the way, we will let justice roll down like a mighty stream.”

Out of love for our neighbors, we write letters to Congress.  Our letters are an offering of our time and our voice to those who need us to be their advocates.

Join us on Sunday, May 5 to write letters to proclaim Matthew’s words again, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”
