Join the Dishwashing Crew

Time: 12:00 am – 11:59 pm

Do you want to help Northminster minimize our carbon footprint? One of our newest sustainability initiatives is ditching disposables and using the reusable dinnerware we already have at Wednesday night dinners and other meals at church. In order to make this work, we need a few tree-hugging friends to help with dishwashing!

We have a terrific refurbished industrial dishwasher that makes the work fast and easy. Most Wednesday night dinners require only an hour of time in dish cleanup (which could be done at any time between 5:30 - 7:30 p.m.-ish). Want to be a part of the dishwashing squad? Please email Monica Brase at   or call 317-294-6737.

Why are we doing this? Reusable dishware uses far less energy and resources over its lifetime than disposables. Even with the energy and water needed to wash ‘real’ dishware, the overall environmental impact is substantially less than single-use, throw-away items. The biggest environmental impact of disposables —energy, resources, and carbon emissions—come from sourcing the materials, manufacturing the items, then transporting them. Then, once used, they sit in a landfill or go to an incinerator, neither of which is good for air quality.

AND purchasing disposables over and over is more expensive than using the dishes and utensils we already own. When we use our own dishes, we save money and keep our planet cleaner!
