Join the Dishwashing Crew!
One of the best ways we can help our church lower its carbon footprint is to cut back on (or completely eliminate) single-use items like plastic water bottles, disposable dishes, and utensils. The good news is our church has a nice collection of ceramic dishes and reusable utensils we can use for events, including our Wednesday night dinners and Italian night.
And here’s more good news - someone gets to wash those dirty dishes! If you’d like to be a member of the elite inaugural “Dishwashers For The Lord” crew, you can email or call Monica Brase by email or phone. Benefits of joining the crew include getting to eat the delicious Wednesday night meal (you can eat with the group or after everyone has left), wearing a cool apron and dishwashing gloves, and learning to operate the industrial dishwasher (a skill that looks great on a resume!). And, of course, you’ll be doing something great for our planet.

Confronting and Resisting Christian Nationalism
Time: 6:00 pm – 7:00 pm
Location: Northminster Presbyterian Church
Join us to hear from renowned expert John Franke on two of the most significant responses to Christian Nationalism in the twentieth century: Karl Barth in the Barmen Declaration and Dietrich Bonhoeffer in his book Life Together.
After a brief look at the history of Christian Nationalism, we'll examine these historical examples of confrontation and resistance as we consider the practice of faithful Christian witness in our own time.
Franke is an affiliate professor of theology at CTS and Theologian in Residence at Second Presbyterian. He serves as general coordinator of the Gospel and Our Culture Network in North America and as an adjunct professor at Princeton Theological Seminary. John is a graduate of Oxford University (D.Phil. in Theology)

"Menopause: We ALL Go Through It" Panel Discussion
Time: 11:15 am – 1:30 pm
Everything you've always wanted to know about menopause but were afraid to ask! Join three experts, Dr. Stephanie Meade, Dr. Melanie MacLaren, and Dr. Deb Ronco, as we unpack this underdiscussed, misunderstood, and very real stage of life from the perspective of traditional, naturopathic, and complementary medicine. Spiritual Growth and Spiritual Wholeness and Wellness sponsor this event.
It is important for people of ALL sexes, gender identities, and ages to have information about this topic, not just "women of a certain age." Everyone is encouraged to attend, even men and children! This frank conversation will cover many areas of women's health, including sexual health. Please use your discretion when bringing children into the discussion. Free childcare is available.
Lunch will be provided by Cater Me Cafe, a local, woman-owned business in Nora. Reservations for lunch are required via the link below. Lunch is $15 for adults, $5 for kids, and gluten-free options are available. Childcare is provided. Please contact Krista Wright with questions.
The deadline to register for lunch is Sunday, November 2nd!
Meet the Speakers
Dr. Stephanie Meade
After growing up in Louisville, KY, Dr. Meade moved to NYC, where she lived and worked as a professional dancer for over 15 years. A career-threatening foot injury led her to an osteopathic physician whose treatments not only healed her but also prevented invasive surgery, allowing her to resume dancing. Inspired by the care and compassion she received, Dr. Meade felt a profound calling to pursue a career in medicine. After completing her undergraduate studies in NYC, she moved to Indianapolis to attend Marian University College of Osteopathic Medicine.
During her family medicine residency, Dr. Meade experienced firsthand the challenging symptoms of the menopause transition. Although surrounded by physicians from various specialties, she was unable to find anyone with the expertise to provide effective guidance. This experience led her to uncover a significant gap in menopause care—one that leaves many women struggling with symptoms that diminish their quality of life, hinder daily functioning, and contribute to long-term health concerns.
Determined to address this gap, she embarked on a journey of self-directed training and education in midlife women’s health by attending conferences, CME webinars, and extensively reviewing the literature. Now a certified specialist in menopause medicine, she is dedicated to providing this much-needed care.
She is an active member of the Menopause Society and the American College of Lifestyle Medicine. Dr. Meade is also an Assistant Professor at Marian University College of Osteopathic Medicine, where she helps train the physicians of tomorrow.
Dr. Meade enjoys dancing, singing, live theatre, history, anthropology, and taking her long-haired cat for walks.
Dr. Melanie MacLaren
Dr. Melanie MacLaren is a naturopathic doctor who is passionate about natural health and the individualized needs of each of her clients. She founded Dragonfly 360 Wellness to help educate others on the benefits of holistic, naturopathic practices. Her practice includes her supervising physician and an esthetician/massage therapist.
Dr. Melanie works with individuals on various chronic health issues such as anxiety, fatigue, insomnia, allergies & food sensitivities, hormone imbalances, weight gain and digestive issues. She utilizes nutrition, supplements, homeopathic remedies in her practice as well as bio-identical hormone replacement, thyroid glandulars, and peptides.
After experiencing her own healing crisis in 2005, Dr. Melanie knew she needed more than what mainstream medical treatment provided. Dr. Melanie worked with a naturopathic doctor to help her find balance with chronic stress, digestive issues, fatigue, allergies, asthma, and adrenal issues — using nutrition and natural remedies. This sparked her passion in the field and she wanted to educate others on natural health. With a previous degree from Purdue University in Civil Engineering, she went on to become a Board Certified Naturopathic Doctor with the ANMCB and a Certified NAET Practitioner.

Celebrate the fall season at Northminster’s Fall Festival on Saturday, November 15th, from 11:30 am to 3:00 pm!
This celebration will feature lawn games and activities, pumpkin painting, live music by The Porchmen, and a variety of other fall activities for all ages. At 12:30 pm, gather with us for a free chili lunch with different kinds of chili for all to enjoy.

Whether you stop by for a little while or stay for the whole afternoon, you’ll find joy, community, and maybe even a chance to pie a pastor in the face!
Volunteers Needed!
We need cooking volunteers to make chili and cornbread. We're also in need of volunteers to help with the general flow of attendees and volunteers for clean-up duty.
Chili & Cornbread
Please ensure that food arrives no later than 11:45 am to be brought to Calvin Hall for warming. To accommodate all dietary restrictions, we are in need of the following chili options (The numbers indicate how many different crock pots we are looking for in order to make sure we have enough).
- Classic beef & bean (3)
- White chicken chili (2)
- Vegetarian (3)
- non spicy/kid friendly (1)
- Regular cornbread (12 servings x4)
- Gluten-free cornbread (12 servings x3)
Assistants and Clean-Up Duty
Volunteers are also needed to help with the general flow of attendees (directing guests to bathrooms inside, helping serve food and beverages, and helping monitor lawn games/activities/crafts), and volunteers are needed for clean-up duty. Event ends at 3:00, so volunteers would need to be available from then until 4:30 at the very latest

Caravaggio: A Life of Contradiction
Time: 11:30 am – 1:30 pm
Caravaggio is an early 17th-century Italian Baroque Painter who many describe as the greatest interpreter of biblical stories and scripture in Western art. His passionate and realistic portrayals run parallel to his tumultuous, crime-ridden life. This is a telling of his life through his artwork.
Led by Jerry Gray, RSVP using the link below, and join us after worship for lunch and learning that's fun and fascinating! (There will be references to adult content that some people may find offensive. No foul language will be used, but caution should be considered around intermediate-aged children.)

Time: 12:00 am – 11:59 pm
Join us for our annual retreat at the Potawatomi Inn at Pokagon State Park, January 23-25, 2025!
This is a relaxing weekend full of fellowship and fun. The schedule is very relaxed (most folks arrive Friday evening and depart late Sunday morning). We have dinner and worship together on Saturday night. This year we will also offer a two-hour childcare time on Saturday afternoon with supervised activities for children five and under, so their grownups can have some free time! There will also be scheduled activities for 6th through 12th graders.
The "total cost" is the cost of your room type for two nights and an activity fee for each person attending (family cap of 4 people or $100). Register by Wednesday, November 19th!

Volunteer Greeters Needed!
Greeters needed! Are you looking to have a hot meal and to greet and talk to Wednesday night members and friends? Well, this is the perfect volunteer opportunity for you. Please consider being a greeter on Wednesday. Please sign up using the link below or contact Melissa Hopkins or Liz Higgins!
