Wednesday Night Adult Study | Lent

Time: 6:00 pm – 7:00 pm

Northminster Presbyterian Church

Lent is a journey: 40 days in the wilderness that moves towards the noise of Jerusalem, leading to the miracle of the empty tomb. What unexpected places were sacred for Jesus? In what unexpected places have you encountered the sacred? Is it possible the sacred waits to be discovered in our own hearts, minds, and spirits?

Our guide for the journey is Mary Beth Riner who for 30 years has practiced Centering Prayer. During the classes, we will explore:

  • Centering Prayer: a Christian meditation practice to disengage from our external lives and engage in our inner faith lives.
  • Lectio Divina: reading a short scripture passage and considering what the Holy Spirit wants us to hear.
  • Visual Divina: using art to bring a spiritual message to awareness.

Sessions will include an opening chant, check-in, 10 minutes of silent prayer, reading a passage, discussing assigned readings from the book Open Mind, Open Heart by Father Thomas Keating, and receiving a parting object to carry home for daily practice.
